Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position is to advance the image of the College and serve as a critical component of the institutional advancement, communications and marketing team by conceptualizing, researching, designing and producing print and electronic publications, print and web advertising; producing, assembling, organizing and preparing web and print-ready narrative text, graphic and photo assets.

Position collaborates with Information Technology to initiate, implement, develop and maintain essential interactive publications including interactive “smart catalog” technology systems and online class schedules for student recruitment using HTML coding, Adobe design software, web-based publications, and content management systems.

Position analyzes and reports web analytics, implements search engine optimization, assists with social media and ADA compliance on these online publications.

The Online and Print Communications Specialist assists in preparation and presentation of college display and exhibits; assisting with development of coordinated marketing functions of the College by interfacing with the media relations division of College Relations to present a unified brand image of the College through all projects and news events.
This is accomplished by researching, conceptualizing, creating print pieces; acquiring print-resolution photography with appropriate release forms, developing electronic displays and presentations; creating content for college web pages; utilizing a content management system to update Web pages; coordinating or assisting with special events.

Position assists College clients with writing, designing and planning publications, budgeting, developing cost estimates, coordinating and working with freelance photographers or other content creators as necessary, securing quotes or bids and managing major projects, such as College signage, from concept to delivery.

Project responsibilities include researching and producing pre-press versions of College publications including brochures, catalogs, posters, stationery/business cards, student recruitment publications, legislative presentations, direct-mail pieces and other promotional publications advertisements and presentations, including the possibility of online versions of each.

The Online and Print Communications Specialist assists with research of evolving technology pertinent to College Relations office operations, recommends hardware and software changes, and provides technical assistance to integrate changes throughout office, and assists in managing the College Relations Office master production calendar required to adequately distribute office personnel and budget resources to execute close to 400 publications, promotions and projects per year.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Working knowledge of HTML and other current and emerging web application capabilities.

Proficient with Adobe InDesign and various other graphic design software.

Knowledge and Ability to interpret and apply software operating instructions, content management systems as well as printing and pre-press production for complex projects and publications.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Strategic Communications, Web Development, Graphic Arts, Advertising, Information Technology, or comparable field with emphasis on print and web communications.

Three (3) years experience in educational or commercial setting producing publications, brand marketing, web content, interactive media, new media or related experience. Experience to include content management systems and Adobe design software.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and ability to manage publications production, primarily for print but some web applications as well.

Knowledge of project planning, design, writing, editing, fact-checking, production and quality control for projects ranging from the College’s print and web-based catalog, class schedules and marketing publications to posters, flyers, audio/visual presentations and web postings using existing or producing original designs and artwork.

Ability to manage the production calendar for major College projects and promotions.
